The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) yesterday insisted that it has no deal with the United National Party (UNP).

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, speaking at an election rally in Nugegoda, said that the UNP is working with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and not the JVP.

He noted that the UNP-SLFP coalition met even last week for a cabinet meeting despite contesting the August 17 Parliamentary election separately.

Dissanayake said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been accusing the JVP of working with the UNP when it is his own party which is working with the UNP.

The JVP leader insisted that the JVP will look to form a strong opposition after August 17 and be a stronger voice in Parliament.

He also said that the JVP will do all it can to ensure Rajapaksa does not return to power following the defeat he suffered on January 8. (Colombo Gazette)
