Leftist organizations yesterday held a press conference in Colombo demanding the immediate release of two missing activists of the dissident group of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).

These two activists, Lalith Kumar Weeraraju and Kugan Muruganandan of the Movement for People’s Struggles disappeared on December 09 at Nirveli in Jaffna while making preparations to launch the Movement for People’s Struggle formed by the JVP dissidents. They were last seen travelling on a motorcycle.

Frontline Socialist Party Propaganda Secretary Pubudu Jayagoda at the press conference claimed that the two Tamil activists are in illegal custody of the military and their lives are in danger.

He further charged that the two activists are presently detained in a military camp in Jaffna.

However, the police and military have repeatedly denied that these two were arrested or detained in their custody.
