The Minister of Justice Rauff Hakeem is to grace the occasion as the chief guest at the launching of “Justice.lk”, together with many distinguished guests including the IGP  N.K. Illangakoon and the Additional Solicitor General  Palitha Fernando.

Supreme Court Judges, President’s Counsels, State Counsels, Senior Lawyers, Justices of the Peace, Members of Mediation Boards, Academics, Journalists and other stake holders have been invited to partner this ground breaking venture to be held at the YMCA International Hotel in Negombo on 8 September 2011.

“Justice.lk” is initiated by the Law students Association of Sri Lanka, the Youth Link Movement, the Bar Association of Negombo and Lions International to create a forum to connect all the stakeholders, ranging from policy makers, legislators, judges, lawyers, police officers, academics, law students, civil society and the general public to offer constructive and contemporary solutions to grass-root and national level issues. The objective is to narrow the existing detachment between legislators, practitioners of the law and the general public and to offer proposals for law reform to policy makers.

The key feature of the event will be the launching of the website: justice.lk which would lay the foundation for a forum for deliberation of pressing issues affecting our society. To this end the first gathering of Justice.lk is expected to nominate the representatives for the Think Tank to be established with the participation of all the stakeholders in society, in search of practical solutions and proposals for law reform. The pro bono team of the Law Students’ Association of Sri Lanka is to act as the recipient of public grievances which would form the basis for deliberation of the Think Tank.
