Judiciary ends two-day strike

The Judiciary went on strike for the second day on Tuesday to protest against an attack on a senior judge but decided to return to work after discussions.

The two-day strike was called off after the Judicial Services Association of Sri Lanka, which comprises of judges from around the country, called a special meeting.

The Judicial Services Commission’s (JSC) Secretary Manjula Thilakaratne was attacked by unknown armed gang over the weekend and hospitalised.

Thilakaratne is a senior Judge and the JSC has powers to appoint and transfer Judiciary officials as well take disciplinary action.

On Sunday President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave order for the Police to conduct a full and impartial investigation into the attack on Thilakaratne.
