The Joint Opposition yesterday had talks with Central Bank Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy and discussed the alleged Treasury bond scam.
Opposition Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardena said that Coomaraswamy was told that there was an unacceptable delay in taking action against those accused in the Treasury bond scam.
Gunawardena also said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was being falsely accused in the whole scam through a gazette notification.
“We want to tell the country there is an attempt to cover up this whole scam,” he said.
The Joint Opposition says it was also informed that the Governor was not satisfied with the progress of the internal investigations being conducted by the Central Bank into the scam.
“The Governor said he hopes to complete the investigations in one month,” Gunawardena said.
Gunawardena added that the Joint Opposition hoped to submit information it had to the Presidential Commission investigating the scam. (Colombo Gazette)
