The Jaffna - Colombo Private Bus (Guarantee) Limited in a communiqué‚ released applauded Secretary Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa for the prompt action initiated to resolve the problem of bus parking close to the Ramakrishna Mission, at Wellawatte.
“We are most grateful to you, for your intervention and prompt action to redress the problem faced by the bus owners and passengers alike”, the Association has further stated.
The Jaffna-Colombo Private Bus (Guarantee) Limited is an association comprising all the private bus owners operating the Jaffna- Colombo service.
The vast majority of travelers utilizing the Jaffna-Colombo services are from wellawatte and its suburbs and, therefore Wellawatte has always been the most convenient and preferred point of the departure from Colombo. There had been a tremendous increase in the flow of travelers between Jaffna and Colombo, with the end of the war.
The lack of a suitable single permanent site for passenger boarding has been causing a lot of inconvenience and hardship not only for bus owners but to the passengers as well. This problem has now been solved with the new arrangement approved by Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary of Defence thus easing problems faced by general transport and road users along the marine drive and Galle Road in Wellawatte.
Accordingly, from last Friday Jaffna-Colombo bus services from Wellawatte are operative from 6.00p.m to 10.00 p.m with 10 buses scheduled to leave every half an hour from the new site.
