The first flag of the Flag Sales Week organised to mark International White Cane Day was pinned to President Maithripala Sirisena 4 October at the Presidential Secretariat.
The Flag Sales Week organised annually to raise funds for the Vision Impaired Student’s Welfare Fund and to increase attention of the general public regarding visually impaired persons.
President of the Sri Lanka Council of Visually Handicapped Graduates Sugath Vasantha de Silva pinned the first flag to President Sirisena and the President also, marking the White Cane Day, presented a white cane.
At this event they presented a scroll to the President, listing out the problems unique to the handicapped.
Members of the Sri Lanka Council of Visually Handicapped Graduates, including its President Sugath Vasantha de Silva, and Secretary Padmakumari Karunathilaka participated at this event.
