Indian Coast Guard training mission in Sri Lanka demonstrates pollution response exercises

The two Indian Coast Guard ships visiting Sri Lanka on a training mission are now docked at the Colombo Port after participating in the trilateral exercise in Trincomalee last week.
The two ships ICGS Vishwast and ICGS Rajkamal arrived at the Colombo Port on 22 December after taking part in the Trilateral Tabletop Exercise (TTEX) 2013 conducted by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard with India and Maldives.
The two Indian ships are conducting continuous training sessions for the Sri Lankan counterparts and Tuesday ICGS Vishwast carried out a pollution response equipment deployment exercise onboard.
Personnel from the Sri Lanka Navy, Coast Guard and observers from the Sri Lanka Army, Air Force, Marine Environment Protection Authority, Disaster Management Centre and Ports Authority participated in the exercise.
The exercise has displayed the capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard Ships in responding to marine oil spills.
The ICG ships have conducted a similar exercise in Trincomalee for the participants of the Trilateral Tabletop Exercise (TTEX) 2013.
The officers and sailors of the two ships also participated in a beach cleaning campaign at the Mount Lavinia beach yesterday morning.
A total of 30 Indian Coast Guard personnel have joined the SLCG personnel to clean up the beach area from Dehiwala to Mt. Lavinia.
The Sri Lanka Coast Guard said its personnel stationed in the Western region continue to engage in this community based activity on a routine basis to ensure that the beach areas are kept clean for the public.
The ships are expected to carry out a passage exercise with the participation of Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard personnel before they leave Colombo on Thursday.
