Even though, Sri Lanka has beautiful coastal areas, we are losing that beauty, due to the increasing coastal pollution in the country.
The Government has taken steps to implement a national program to clean up our local beaches as a solution to this issue. The Inaugural ceremony of the national coastal cleaning program will be held under patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena on September 19 at 7.00 a.m. at the Galle Face Green.
The Marine Environment Protection Authority has organized the event under the theme of “Sayura Rakimu Api Surekemu” ( Save the Ocean for Our Protection).
In parallel to the main program several programs will be held in Gampaha and Kalutara districts on September 19th and other programs will be held in Puttalam, Mannar, Kilinochchi and Jaffna districts on September 21st. On September 22nd programs will be held in Trinco, Batticaloa and Ampara districts. On September 23rd also programs will be held in Matara, Galle and Hambantota districts.
