Noel Mudalige a.k.a Premakumar Gunaratnam had said he was concerned about his identity while in Sri Lanka for his own safety as the state media and some private media organisations had spread false information concerning me to the point where he could not live freely within the country.

Addressing the Sri Lankan media from his residence in Sydney, Gunaratnam said that he did not engage in any illegal activity in Sri Lanka and if he had done so the Government should have taken legal action against him instead of deporting him.

He also said that during Chandrika Kumaratunga’s government and during the time the JVP helped Mahinda Rajapaksa come to power, there were no such identity problems, adding that if those he worked with over 30 years are saying they do not know him now, he cannot help the public’s suspicious attitude towards him.
