The Human Rights Commission (HRC) of Sri Lanka is to launch an awareness programme to educate people about human rights.
The HRC has identified that most Sri Lankans lack a proper knowledge about human rights.
It has already conducted an awareness workshop in Anuradhapura for the civil society activists in the North Central Province.
HRC’s North Central Coordination Officer Kumudini Vithana has said the commission hoped to create awareness about human rights in the rural areas.
According to Vithana, people need to know that the HRC assists people whenever their human rights are infringed, even by the State.
