Retiring Sri Lankan Consul Dr. Thomas Cheung called on President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat to bid farewell.
The President thanked Dr. Cheung for the services rendered during his 29-year-long tenure as Sri Lanka Consul in Hong Kong. He made a special mention about assisting a housing project in Kolonnawa and providing generous grants to Nikaweratiya Hospital and to the Housing Development Authority for construction of small houses for the homeless.
Consul Cheung said he would continue to help Sri Lanka even after retiring and said he would like to provide financial assistance to hospital and educational activities in Sri Lanka.
President Sirisena, referring to close bilateral relations, said cooperation in tourism sector between Sri Lanka and Hong Kong could be further strengthened.
