High Commissioner Asitha Perera, whilst conveying the best wishes of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to President of Malta Dr. George Abela, briefed the President on the post-conflict developments in the north east of Sri Lanka, the progress on the proposals of the implementations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission, and the opportunities available in post-conflict Sri Lanka.
Perera requested the President of Malta to visit Sri Lanka with a trade delegation at a mutually-convenient date.
The High Commissioner also thanked the President and people of Malta for the support granted to Sri Lankan post-tsunami victims, besides sending a medical team to the country and indicated that Sri Lanka would also be interested in signing an air services agreement for code share, between Air Malta and SriLankan Airlines including an agreement to recruit caregivers/service assistants to Malta.
Perera functions as Ambassador to Greece, Ambassador designate to Albania, High Commissioner to Cyprus and Malta and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN Agencies based in Rome – FAO, IFAD, WFP, and ICCROM.
