The Disaster Management Centre announced that 10,225 families have been displaced due to the inclement weather situation and majority of them are from the Kilinochchi District. The situation has also affected arrangements for holding the GCE ordinary level examination in some areas.
Over 40 tanks including the Iranamadu, Kalmadukulam and Akkerayankulum in the North are reported to be overflowing and 4,957 displaced persons of the Killinochchi disrict have been housed in 27 camps. Several small tanks in Vavunia, Mulaitivu and Mannar districts are also reported to be overflowing, affecting about 1300 acres of paddy lands.
The Shivapuram village has been inundated due to the over flow of the Iranamadu tank in Kilinochchi: several roads including the Paranthan Pudukudi-Iruppi have been inundated and impassable.
In the Polonnaruwa district all tanks and reservoirs are reported to be over flowing, with about 1000 acres of paddy lands have been completely inundated.
