Following the death of a female doctor at the hand of an unqualified plastic surgeon, the Health Ministry has decided to inspect all cosmetic clinics in the country.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala has issued a circular directing all the provincial and divisional health service directors to inspect the places that provide cosmetology services islandwide.
The health service directors have been instructed to appoint special teams to inspect all cosmetic clinics island wide and obtain details on the procedures, standard of the drugs and medical products including creams and chemicals, quality and validity of cosmetic devices, and qualification and experience of the staff members at the cosmetic service providers.
Following the inspections the Provincial Health Services Directors are instructed to send reports of their findings to the Health Ministry.
The Ministry of Health has also appointed a four member committee comprising specialist doctors to investigate the quality and safety of the cosmetic industry in the country.
