Uva Province Chief Minister Harin Fernando said yesterday he hoped to contest the next parliamentary elections and re-enter Parliament. Fernando resigned from his UNP Parliament seat in August 2014 to contest the Uva Provincial Council elections but he lost the top spot to UPFA candidate Shasheendra Rajapaksa who was eventually made Chief Minister.
However, this year, after the new Government came to power, Fernando obtained majority support to be made the Chief Minister.
Fernando told reporters that he only wanted to be the Chief Minister for 100 days but he received an extra few days since parliamentary elections had not yet been held. However, he said once Parliament was dissolved he hoped to contest the next parliamentary election and return to Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)
