The leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, parliamentarian Rauff Hakeem issued the following statement following the victory of President-elect Maithripala Sirisena: On behalf of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Rauff Hakeem extended his heartfelt congratulations on the historic victory of

President-elect Maithripala Sirisena. He placed on record his sincere thanks and gratitude, especially to the minority voter-bases in the country for showing their resilient solidarity with other communities in ensuring this victory. Hakeem assured of his best wishes and support to Sirisena to undertake his responsibilities as President and Commander in Chief of the island nation. Hakeem stated in his congratulatory note, “We pray to Almighty Allah to give you the courage to endure the arduous task of transforming our Sri Lankan society in accordance with your manifesto. Your message of hope resonates with the Muslim community of Sri Lanka whose only desire is to be patriotic citizens while practicing our faith.” Hakeem further stated: “We have survived difficult times and we look forward to grasping the future as an integral component of our plural society under your competent leadership.”
