Since there have been many complains with regard to the problems arisen in the disposal of garbage in and around Colombo City, Minister Rauff Hakeem pointed out that a program should be brought underway with the assistance of the local government authorities.
A special discussion was held under the patronage of Hakeem at the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Drainage Auditorium at Sesthiripaya, Battaramulla on Monday (6) to look into the problems and obstacles that has arisen with regard to the dump-yard in Meethotamulla.
It was revealed that due to the bad weather conditions and contamination residents of Meethotamulla area who are living around the dump-yard are facing untold hardships.
The Minister also advised the officials to look in to the possibilities of providing suitable accommodation to residents living around the Meethotamulla dump yard, while providing a proper program for the removal of the garbage.
Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Drainage Additional Secretary P. Suresh, Strategic Cities Development Program Project Director Anura Dassanayake, Urban Development Authority Working Director Kishan Karunaratne and senior officials of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Cooperation and Colombo Municipal Council participated at the discussion.
