President Maithripala Sirisena said that the greatest honour we can pay to the great Anagarika Dharmapala is our firm commitment to build a good society using his philosophy and guidance shown to us throughout his lifetime.
The President made these observations participating at the 82nd commemoration event of Anagarika Dharmapala at the Sri Lanka Mahabodhi Agrashawaka Maha Viharaya in Maradana recently.
President Sirisena further said that the exemplary character of Anagarika Dharmapala and his guidance shown to the people in our country cannot be erased from our history.
He paid floral tributes to the statue of the late Anagarika Dharmapala located at the premises of the Sri Lanka Mahabodhi Agrashawaka Maha Viharaya. Subsequently, the President also paid homage to the Sacred Relics of Sariyuth and Mugalan Arahant Theros placed at the Viharaya.
Maha Sangha including Most Venerable Ittapana Dhammalankara Maha Nayaka Thero and Ven. Banagala Upatissa Thero, Ministers Ravi Karunanayake, Karu Jayasuriya and other dignitaries also participated in the event.
