The Lawyers Collective yesterday said that there was growing concern of security threats on activist lawyers and the judges.

Lawyers Collective also said it was shocked to hear about the shooting incident at the residence of Wijedasa Rajapakse, President of BASL.

“The BASL has passed a resolution recently at a General meeting of its Members calling upon the Government to withdraw the Impeachment against the Chief Justice. Thereafter, Mr. Wijedasa Rajapakse has constantly come under media attack in state media. While condemning this intimidatary tactics, we call upon all parties to refrain from attacking or resorting to any form of threats on lawyers,” Lawyers Collective said.

It also said there is no progress of police investigations in respect of the attack on Mr. Gunaratne Wanninayaka which happened a few days ago.

The group also alleged that the security provided for MP and lawyer P. Sumanthiran’s house was withdrawn in the morning yesterday. He was among the most active Lawyers working against the Impeachment. He is an Member of Parliament but a senior practitioner.
