Grama Niladhari Divisions will be allocated Rs. 1 m under Rural Development Program: Amunugama

Outside-lead-1-RuralMinister of Special Assignments Dr. Sarath Amunugama said that each Grama Niladhari Division in the country has been allocated Rs. 1 million by the Government under the Rural Development Program announced in the 2016 budget.

Already divisional level officers have been informed that Grama Niladhari Division Level proposals should be submitted to the Divisional Co-ordinating Committees in accordance with criteria stipulated by the Government. Accordingly Divisional Secretaries have been instructed by circular that funds should be allocated for projects coming under the following four categories:

1.Raising household income

2.Accelerated generation of rural employment

3.Enhancement of infrastructure

4.Enhancement of rural connectivity

Under the Yahapalana government Ministers and MPs of the UNP and the SLFP have been appointed as Co-Chairmen of Divisional Co-ordinating Committees. Accordingly for each Grama Niladhari Division the UNP Co-Chairman will submit proposals for Rs. 5 lakhs and the SLFP Co-Chairman will submit proposals for the balance Rs. 5 lakhs. The Minister informs that the Co-Chairmen belonging to whichever party have been appointed by the President.
