The Government yesterday decided to speed up implementation of its National Plan of Action on the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) proposals including the 53 additional recommendations approved by cabinet last week.
At a meeting chaired by Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunge at the Mahaweli Auditorium with Government agencies and officials tasked with implementation of the Government-accepted recommendations, a decision was made to expedite the process and submit progress reports. Ministry secretaries and several other officials were also present at the meeting, the Presidential Media Unit said.
Weeratunge briefed officials on how to implement the 53 new recommendations approved by cabinet last week. He also called on Government ministers to assist in addressing the Government’s other efforts at reconciliation even those that are not made mention of in the LLRC report.
The President’s Secretary also urged the Government Ministries to address all issues to assist Government efforts at National reconciliation including issues not mentioned in the LLRC report. (DB)
