The Government has decided to rebuild the dilapidated oil pipeline network that carries oil from the Colombo Harbour to the storage terminal in the suburb of Kolonnawa, six kilometres away.
Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka has proposed the cross country pipeline project to lay oil pipelines from Colombo Harbour up to Kolonnawa Wholesale Terminal.
The pipeline network that carries oil from the Colombo Port to the storage terminal is 40 to 70 years old and is in a very dilapidated status, according to the Minister.
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved Minister Ranawaka’s proposal to carry out a complete study on the infrastructure and other facilities required to construct a new pipeline network.
The Government has decided to call for an open international tender for the selection of a suitable contractor to rebuild the pipeline network.
