Govt.starts flood-garbage clean up from Kotikawatta

The Government began cleaning up garbage from flood-affected areas on Wednesday, starting from Kotikawatta, the Local Government and Provincial Councils Ministry said.

Approximately 500 Army personnel, Police forces and the Civil Security Department members have been assigned to the task. 

The Ministry said that countrywide local Government institutions have offered manpower, vehicles and equipmentsuch as tippers, tractors, garbage collecting machines and generators to carry out the garbage collecting process effectively.

A special operating centre has also been established at T.B. IlangaratneStadium, Angoda, to coordinate the process around the Kolonnawa area. 

Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Faiszer Mustapha said the Ministry expected to remove all garbage dumps in the Colombo area within another two days.

The collected garbage will be moved to a temporary place until the Government finds a permanent station.
