The Government rejected diverse opinions and ideologies giving misleading information on the proposed Constitution.

Issuing a special statement the Prime Minister’s Office held that no document or a draft has been prepared by the government up to now on the proposed Constitution and these utterances from different political parties are false.

The statement specially pointed out that, the government has not taken any decision to amend the clauses in the Constitution on Theravada Buddhism in the country.

“The Committee headed by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held discussions only on the electoral system, vesting the power with the Provincial Councils, and the Executive Presidency,” it added.

The statement further said, “The public proposals recently published by the Constitutional Reforms Public Representative Committee are not a draft of the new Constitution. It is only a revelation of   public interests and opinion. Those proposals will be presented to the Parliamentary sub- committees on Constitutional Reforms for action, which will be a base to draft the proposed Constitution.”
