Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Leader and MP Udaya Gammanpila yesterday claimed that the Government planned to arrest him over a false allegation regarding a stock transaction of an Australian company named Digital Nominees.
He said the allegation was levelled over selling Rs 1.1 billion of shares of the above company which were placed in a local commercial bank without its acknowledgement by abusing power of attorney status.
“The Police Special Investigation Unit is about to arrest me. I can prove that Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka was behind this entire process. However, I strongly deny all allegations,” Gammanpila charged.
Attacking Minister Ranawaka, he claimed that the Police was forced by Ranawaka to conduct investigations on this baseless allegation and said: “I was a competitor to him. He wants to take revenge on me.”
According to Gammanpila, the company was closed in 2005 due to profit failure and he did not have any legal or financial relations with it. He further said the company did not mention any such Rs.1.1 billion of shares in its final financial statement.
