According to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, several Indian investors have come forward seeking Government assistance to establish a special zone in Trincomalee. However, plans could change with the Government trying to identify the best location for the project.

“Some think that having this zone in Kurunegala will be better. Discussions will explore the possibility of establishing either a local management company or an Indian company to provide the service. No final decision has been reached,” he said. “The Sabana Company in Singapore is preparing some plans to develop the Trincomalee port. Polonnaruwa will also be considered. Areas will be identified for manufacturing, industry, tourism and oil. We have assigned a team of Government officials, including top officials from the Ministry of Megapoilis and Western Development.” (AH)
