Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa says he is prepared to enter politics if the public wants him to.
Speaking to reporters outside the Presidential Commission on large-scale fraud today, Rajapaksa said that the country needed a strong opposition. He said that Tamil National Alliance leader R. Sampanthan cannot be accepted as the opposition leader.
Meanwhile National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa said that a new opposition political front was being formed and that it was almost ready to commence work.
Asked if Gotabaya Rajapaksa will play a key role in the new political front, Weerawansa said that it was too early to comment. (Colombo Gazette)
