The President’s Media Division yesterday announced that former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka had been promoted to the rank of Field Marshal with effect from 22 March by President Maithripala Sirisena.
It was reported that the official ceremony would be held on 22 March. General Fonseka will be the first Field Marshal in Sri Lanka’s military history.
