Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Leader and MP Udaya Gammanpila was released on cash bail of Rs.25, 000 yesterday with three sureties of Rs.500,000 each, following an order by Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne.
Gammanpila was arrested by the Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) on 18 June over charges of allegedly using a fraudulent power-of-attorney to sell shares of an Australian company belonging to businessman Brian Shadick. After being arrested by the SIU, Gammanpila was produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Court and held in Welikada prison until Friday.
In addition, Sydney Jayasinghe who was arrested along with Gammanpila over the same allegations, was also released on cash bail of Rs.15, 000 with two sureties of Rs.500,000 each.
The Magistrate imposed travel bans on both suspects.
