United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Western Provincial Councillor Udaya Gammanpila yesterday said that he and others who organised the recent rally in Nugegoda were waiting to hear from UPFA leaders regarding the return of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as a Prime Ministerial candidate as they did not want to embarrass UPFA seniors by holding more rallies. Speaking to Daily FT, Gammanpila said that they made an impact with the pro-Mahinda Nugegoda rally and were now waiting for its outcome. “We have made a demand and now we are patiently waiting to see whether the UPFA is willing to allocate any space for our request. So we are going to give them time until Monday and then decide what we are going to do next if we do not receive a positive response from them,” he said. When questioned about whether there were plans for another rally like the one held in Nugegoda, Gammanpila questioned why they should hold more meetings or rallies and embarrass UPFA seniors further. “Why should we embarrass them, as our purpose is not to embarrass the UPFA seniors? So we will wait and see what decision they arrive at and then move to the next stage of action,” he said.
