External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris yesterday briefed diplomats from South Asian and SAARC countries and the Middle East on developments in Sri Lanka.
South Africa had also attended the meeting at the External Affairs Ministry at which the Government had reiterated its concerns over the UN-led investigation on Sri Lanka.
Yesterday the minister had accused the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein of double standards.
Speaking to reporters at a media conference, the minister said that Zeid’s office is putting pressure on Sri Lanka for not supporting the UN-led probe on Sri Lanka but does not do the same with other countries.
Peiris said that some other countries have also refused to support investigations led by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) but there is no pressure on those countries. (Colombo Gazette)
