The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) of Sri Lanka police has arrested four persons who, along with Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka Silva, assaulted a foreign couple at a night club.
The four suspects were arrested after they surrendered to the CCD and were produced in the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the police said.
The suspects include a salon owner, a businessman, a chef and one of Malaka’s bodyguards. They are residents of Kelaniya, Pannipitiya, Kurunegala and Rajagiriya areas.
The CCD arrested Malaka Silva on 1 November following a complaint lodged by the foreign couple with the Bambalapitiya police stating that they were assaulted by his security personnel.
According to reports, Silva had allegedly harassed the foreign woman in the night club provoking the woman’s partner. In response, Silva’s security personnel had reportedly assaulted the foreign couple. Silva has been remanded until 18 November.
