Four men arrested over Mattala mob attack on UNP MPs

Four suspects were arrested yesterday over the attack on a group of UNP MPs in Hambantota recently, the Police Media Unit said.
The unit said that a special Police team had been deployed to arrest the four suspects over the attack on the UNP MPs when they visited the Mattala Airport and Hambantota Port.
The UNP MPs had obtained prior clearance from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to visit the port and airport and all their details had been furnished to the relevant officials.
UNP MPs Eran Wickremeratne and Ajith Perera were among the UNP MPs who came under attack and the UNP had accused Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando of leading the mob.
Opposition UNP Parliamentarians and Provincial Council members staged a protest in Hambantota on Saturday against the attack on the UNP MPs.
Speaking at the protest, UNP MP and Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya had said that the Police must investigate the incident and arrest those responsible. (Colombo Gazette)
