The first flag of War Heroes Commemoration Month was pinned on President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday, declaring the commencement of National War Heroes Commemoration Month 2017.
The Government has declared May annual War Heroes Commemoration Month to show gratitude to war heroes who sacrificed life and limb during the country’s three-decade-long ethnic conflict.
War Heroes Commemoration Flags will be sold in line with War Heroes Commemoration Month. Ranawiru Seva Authority Chairman Anoma Fonseka pinned the flag on the President.
The governors of the provinces handed over the income earned last year by selling the flags to the President at the occasion. The President handed over the new flags for this year to the governors.
State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardena, Secretary to the Ministry Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Secretary to the State Ministry of Defence A.P.P. Kithsiri, governors of all provinces of the country, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Navy Commander were also present at the occasion.
