Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka Road will be declared open in Colombo today by President Maithripala Sirisena in recognition of the services rendered by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka to end terrorism in the country.
The Mayor of Colombo A.J.M. Muzammil yesterday issued a media release stating that this road would be opened today at 3.30 p.m. in the presence of Field Marshal Fonseka and the Minister of Buddha Sasana, Public Administration, Provincial Councils, Local Government and Democratic Governance Karu Jayasuriya.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka Road is located adjoining Colombo 10 and Ananda Coomaraswamy Road. As preparation for the road’s opening, the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) removed 30 illegal houses built along the road and gave those residents 30 houses in Grandpass Thotalaga.
