The police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) yesterday questioned Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga’s wife over alleged fraud in a land deal.

Ranatunga denied allegations of corruption made against him and his wife.

He said that the allegations were part of an attempt to scuttle the election campaign of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Ranatunga is backing Rajapaksa at the 17 August parliament election and was among those on stage with the former President in Tangalle on Wednesday. (Colombo Gazette)
