Investment Promotion Deputy Minister Faiszer Mustapha last week asked why British Prime Minister David Cameron has ignored the plight of northern Muslims who remain IDPs for over 23 years due to eviction by the LTTE.
“I request British Prime Minister Mr. Cameron to visit Puttalam and consider the problems of Muslims who were driven away by the LTTE in 1990. 100,000 Muslims were evicted overnight from their homes in the North. For the last 23 years they are living in refugee camps in Puttalam District. Furthermore hundreds of Muslims were killed by the LTTE in Mosque Kathankudy, Eravur in the East,” Musthapha said. He said he requested Cameron to look in to these problems also.
“Nobody including international med
ia speaks of human rights violations against Northern Muslims,” he added on Sunday during a function held at Isshaniya Arabic College in Colombo to mark President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s 68th birthday and a special ‘thuva’ prayer and Islamic program. The event was organised by the Niyas Moulavi Foundation and Hassim Omer.
