Excise officers raid arrack sales in Matara on Poya day

A team of officers from the Excise Department in Matara raided six places where liquor was being sold on Vap Poya Day, acting on instructions issued by Assistant Commissioner of Excise (Southern Province) H.W.D. Kulathunge.

Of the six, two places were in Kekanadura, two in Thihagoda, one in Pasgoda and another in Dikwella. Five persons were taken into custody together with a stock of liquor.  

The raid was conducted by a team of officers led by Chief Inspector of Excise I.J.A. Perera and comprised Inspectors of Excise S.K. Weththasinghe, A.A.P. Manjula, Sampath Nayanapriya, Sergeant R.P. Thilakerathne, EOs S.A. Nuwan and Ruwan Soyza and driver A.W.W. Palihakkara.
