Ex-DIG Vass Gunawardena falls ill

Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vaas Gunawardena was admitted to hospital yesterday after he was produced in court over a murder case. 

Gunawardena appeared in court over the alleged murder of businessman Mohammed Shiyam. Shyam, 35, a businessman involved in the footwear industry residing at Sagara Road in Bambalapitiya, was killed on 22 May 2013. His body was found in Dompe after he was reported missing.
