The Magistrates’ Court fined former Parliamentarian Duminda Silva Rs. 3,000 for failing to declare his assets for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Aruni Attygala yesterday imposed this fine on Silva consequent to his pleading guilty to the charges.

Silva had earlier informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya that he would plead guilty in the three corruption cases filed against him by the Bribery Commission for not declaring assets. Thereafter he was released on a cash bail of Rs. 10,000 and a surety bail of Rs. 1 million by the Court. During the trial yesterday President Counsel Anil Silva, appearing with Danaraj Samarakoon for Silva, informed court that his client would plead guilty to the charges.

The Bribery Commission had accused Silva of falling to declare his assets and liabilities in accordance with the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Law No. 1 of 1975 for three years.
