In a dramatic turn of events, Sarath Fonseka’s key aide quit his party yesterday, slamming the former Army Chief as being a dangerous dictator. At a press conference that was repeatedly disrupted by members of Fonseka’s Democratic Party, its former Media Coordinator Sanjeewa Samarasinghe lashed out at the former General, saying he was a ruthless and dictatorial leader. The DP hit back against Samarasinghe saying he had allegedly embezzled monies to the tune of Rs. 50,000 and sacked by Fonseka. During the press conference yesterday, Samarasinghe alleged that Fonseka had been responsible for the murder of The Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge in January 2009. (DB)
