Wife ordered to appear in court on allegation of threatening witnesses

Former DIG Vass Gunewardene who was arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of a businessman from Bambalapitiya, Mohamad Siyam was further remanded yesterday till 9 July. Meanwhile the former DIG’s wife Shyamalee Gunewardene Perera has also been summoned before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on 9 July for allegedly intimidating witnesses in the case.

The CID informed court that the former DIG’s wife was threatening witnesses connected to the case. The CID informed court of the progress of the ongoing investigations. Blood samples found at the scene of the crime had been sent for DNA analysis the CID told Court.
