Dengue Prevention Program concludes

A three-day National Dengue Prevention Program implemented by the health authorities from 13- 15 July has concluded and legal action was taken against 1,479 parties.

According to the final report of the program the authorities have inspected 95, 558 premises, 2,378 places were found harbouring mosquito larvae, 11,115 places were cleaned, and 4,235 were given notice. 

This program also covered nearly 188 schools out of which 14 schools were found with environments harbouring mosquito larvae, 11 schools were issued notice, and another 2 were prosecuted. Mosquito larvae have also been found in the premises of 16 state institutions and 55 construction sites. 

Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala requested schools principals to take immediate action to clean school premises. 

"A Cabinet paper on forming a National Policy on Garbage Management has been presented to the Cabinet by the Health Ministry," he added.
