The Parliament is to debate the supplementary allocation of Rs. 20 billion to construct the new Defence Headquarters when the legislature meets on Wednesday (06).
The new Defence Headquarters that would house the Defence Ministry and the headquarters of the three armed forces is to be constructed in Battaramulla.
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s name presented the supplementary estimate of Rs. 20 billion for the Defence Ministry to construct the Defence Headquarters was to the parliament for approval last month.
The debate to extent the Emergency Regulations will be held on Tuesday (05).
The Government expects to complete the constructions of the new military complex by 2013.
The location where the Defence Ministry and the Army Headquarters are currently located in the land facing the Gall Face green has been acquired by two internationally acclaimed Chinese companies to set up hotel-shopping complexes.
