The President of Czech Republic, Miloz Ziman has expressed his intention to visit Sri Lanka next year with a business delegation to promote economic diplomacy between the two countries.
President Ziman has mentioned this when Ambassador Designate of Sri Lanka to the Czech Republic Priyanee Wijesekera presented her Credential to the President Ziman on 23 August, 2016 at the office of the President in the Prague Castle.
Following the Credential Ceremony Ambassador Wijesekera met the President, Deputy Foreign Minister and Director of the Department of South Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Czech Republic.
At the Discussion the President indicated that he hopes to visit Sri Lanka in the latter part of 2017 with a large business delegation in order to promote economic diplomacy.
Ambassador Wijesekera acknowledged with appreciation the assistance given by the Czech Republic to Sri Lanka in the past.
The President Ziman also proposed that Sri Lanka should establish an Embassy in Prague particularly as there is much interest among Czech tourists in visiting Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
President Ziman also assured the Sri Lankan Ambassador that the Czech Republic is favorable towards the European Union restoring the GSP+ concession to Sri Lanka. He also indicated interest in promoting cultural ties between the two countries particularly in the study of Buddhism.
