Crucial Organising Committee meeting of the opposition on Sunday

Colombo: The Organising Committee meeting of the United National Party (UNP) Colombo Central electorate is to be held on 4 September.  UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who is also the chief organiser of the Colombo Central electorate is to chair the meeting.

The Central Colombo electorate is considered the backbone of UNP’s strength in the Colombo Municipal Council.

The party is in a crisis since the electoral organiser of the Colombo Central electorate Mohammed Maharoof  joined the government and is contesting the Municipal Council election on a ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) ticket.  All eyes are focused on the Colombo Municipal Council election since the ruling party has vowed to break the domination of the UNP in the city.
