The Kaduwela Magistrate has upheld the summons issued for former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa over alleged fraud.
Rajapaksa left the country following the conclusion of the 8 January presidential elections and is expected to return to Sri Lanka next month.
The Police are investigating the former Minister over alleged fraud in the ‘Divi Neguma’ fund.
Meanwhile, Rajapaksa issuing a media statement last week, said that he would come to Sri Lanka soon to assist the ongoing investigations against him and give a statement to the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) regarding the ‘Divi Neguma’ financial dealings.
On behalf of Rajapaksa, his lawyer Palitha Fernando informed the FCID, Attorney General and Inspector General of Police (IGP) that Rajapaksa, who is currently undergoing medical treatment in the USA, would give the statement to the FCID as soon as he returned to the country.
