Maithripala Sirisena had filed a case in the District Court in Colombo, seeking to restrict the airing of an advertisement on four TV channels - Swarnavahini, Hiru, Adaderana and Rupavahini - praising the President in November 2009.
Objections were raised that this argument has no relevance because it was made in 2009 when Maithripala Sirisena was not a presidential candidate.
Preventing the airing of this advertisement will be an infringement on Clause 14.1A of the Constitution which guarantees every citizen the right of expression and publicity.
Taking into consideration the objections, the court rejected the enjoining order to stop the telecast of the advertisement.
