A Sri Lankan Court yesterday ordered to further remand 30 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu until 17 January.
The Sri Lankan Navy arrested the 30 fishermen on 5 November in the northern seas near Katchatheevu islet for crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and entering into Sri Lankan waters for poaching.
The court in Mallagam has extended the remand of the fishermen, according to a PTI report. The Sri Lankan Government has recently adopted a new policy of detaining Indian fishermen arrested for poaching in Sri Lankan waters for a long time and confiscating their boats to deter them from trespassing into Sri Lankan waters.
